PLANTING OF A TREE CEREMONY

This is a planting of a tree ceremony script that I have just come across. During my training with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, one of the tasks was to create a symbolic ceremony, and me being me, I decided to choose something that was not mainstream and random. The day will come when I will be able to include this in a real ceremony at some-point, but in the meantime, enjoy the ceremony script:

"The love and relationship that I have seen you both enjoy is compared to this young tree!

How so?

Well, this tree, as it takes root and grows symbolises the growth of your relationship. Just as the tree grows and becomes stronger over time, so will your love for each other during your years of married life together.

Just as you will need to look after and nurture the young tree to keep it alive, so too must you care for each other, and look after each other, nurture the love you have together to keep the relationship strong and alive.

This young tree will grow strong  -  and on occasion it will be battered by storms and strong winds, but because it will have good, strong roots, it will survive any storm thrown at it . . .

. . . So too in your married lives together, many storms and trials may be thrown at the relationship.But as long as the relationship is strong and is lovingly nurtured - it too will survive anything.

To symbolise this love literally  -  we are going to plant this tree together.

I know that you both enjoy walking through the local woods, and I have managed to fill these two pots with soil from these woods . . .

You will each place the soil in with the roots of this tree as a symbol of wanting to look after this tree together . . .

{after planting with the soil} Both of you are going to hold this watering can to nourish this tree to give it a good start in life!

And every-time you see your tree, you will be reminded of your strong love and relationship together, and it getting stronger and stronger as time goes by.
